In early December, Hannover Milano Fairs India Pvt Ltd (HMFI) organised a press event in Mumbai to promote Hannover Messe 2025 – the world’s leading industry show. HMFI promotes flagship international trade fairs for capital goods, run by Deutsche Messe in Hannover, and also a portfolio of professional shows from Fiera Milano S.p.A, known for its management of exhibition space and essential exhibition services related to trade fairs and conferences. The media event was addressed by Hubertus von Monschaw, Global Director of Deutsche Messe AG; Mr C H Nadiger, Regional Director, EEPC India; and Ms Geeta Bisht, CEO, Hannover Milano Fairs India Pvt Ltd.

The world has witnessed major upheavals in the last 5 years beginning with the Covid-19 pandemic and followed by the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Extreme weather events have also contributed to the basket of uncertainties weighing heavily on the collective shoulders of nations. The disrupted supply chains have led to major rethink among policymakers, most notably in the US and in Europe. Recent US government policies are geared towards incentivising more domestic manufacturing with policy measures like Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), and CHIPS and Science Act. In Europe it is the European Critical Raw Materials Act and the EU Climate Law that are setting the agenda for reshoring and as well as addressing environmental concerns. On the other hand, India has launched a series of policy initiatives to attract massive investments and position itself as a global manufacturing hub in what is described as a China Plus One Strategy.

So how does this relate to Hannover Messe 2025? The short answer is technology and innovation. These major shifts in strategies across continents are not going to happen in a vacuum. Conventional manufacturing methods have already reached their peaks of productivity. What is now needed is more innovative use of emerging technologies in which Artificial Intelligence plays a major role. For over 75 years, Hannover Messe has brought together cutting edge technologies under one roof each year, and the legacy continues, attracting global audiences, the timing of the event carefully chosen just as the winter in Europe is receding and spring is in the air. The 2025 edition of Hannover Messe is scheduled from March 31st to April 4th, 2025.

The theme for the 2025 Hannover Messe trade fair is ‘Industrial Transformation – Energizing a Sustainable Industry’. Under this broad theme, the topics include:

·         Smart Manufacturing – Automation & Sensor Technology, Drive Technology, Embedded Systems, Fluid Power, Linear Technology, Logistics Automation, Material Handling & Assembly, Process Automation, and Robotics.

·         AI in the Industry – Hannover Messe will show how industry can use generative AI with concrete applications.

·         Digital Ecosystems – Additive Manufacturing, Business Management Software

·         Cloud/Edge Computing, Digital Platforms, Engineering Software, IT/OT Security, and Wireless Technology & 5G.

·         Energy for Industry – Digital Energy, E-Mobility & Charging Infrastructure, Energy Management & Consulting, Hydrogen & Fuel Cells, Power Engineering & Energy Efficiency, Process & Waste Heat Solutions, and Storage Technologies

·         Engineered Parts & Solutions – Plastics & Innovative Materials, Lightweight Construction, and Metal Parts, Components & Solutions.

·         Compressed Air & Vacuum – Compressed Air & Vacuum Technology.

·         Future Hub – Research & Technology Transfer and Quantum Technologies.

·         Special Displays – International Trade & Investment, and Startup Area.

With all these technologies, the dominant thread for discourse, running through each topic, would be Artificial Intelligence.

"Artificial intelligence will revolutionise the entire value chain of manufacturing companies, and in doing so significantly boost their competitiveness. Visitors to HANNOVER MESSE 2025 will gain insights into available and upcoming applications in the market," said Hubertus von Monschaw, Global Director of Deutsche Messe AG, during his presentation. "With Hannover Messe, we are offering all exhibitors in the Smart Manufacturing area the opportunity to be embedded in a unique industrial innovation ecosystem, in which German and international companies from the general engineering, electrical and digital industries as well as the energy sector present efficient and sustainable solutions for industrial value creation now and in the future. This mix of research, business, startups, and political topics will provide a unique opportunity to connect with top-level decision-makers, technology scouts, experts, and media representatives from throughout the world,” he added.

Speaking next, C H Nadiger, Regional Director of Engineering Export Promotion Council of India (EEPC India), presented an overview of engineering exports from India to all the major markets of the world including Europe. Traditionally, EEPC India organises the India Pavilions across several halls at the Hannover Fairgrounds. The Indian government offers subsidies to SMEs under Market Development Assistance (MDA) scheme to help them compete globally through participation at Hannover Messe. Between 40 to 50 Indian companies participate under the scheme. However, the overall Indian participation is much larger as many companies are direct participants and not part of the EEPC group participation.

In her concluding remarks, Ms Geeta Bisht, CEO of Hannover Milano Fairs India, drew attention to the opportunities Hannover Messe 2025 offers for Indian businesses, now in a resurgent mode. Already a major force in the global economy, the renewed focus on manufacturing has now provided Indian enterprises more avenues to look for overseas partners as they seek technical collaborations to Make in India. To that end, she exhorted Indian manufacturers to take advantage of the platform provided by Hannover Messe to compete on the global stage.
