Smart absolute position detection with rugged WCS IO-Link positioning system.
Pepperl+Fuchs now offers the rugged WCS position encoding system with an IO-Link interface. The optical sensor provides reliable absolute positioning and is now even easier to commission and replace, while also offering comprehensive data sets that enable predictive maintenance. An IO-Link master makes it possible to establish a universal fieldbus connection.
The new system version with the series name WCS3B-LS810 has the same dimensions as the existing WCS system devices. This means that existing code rails, mechanisms, and accessories (e.g., outdoor housings and guide trolleys) can continue to be used without issue. The IO-Link absolute value position encoder is available in three versions: The standard device, a version with a display, and a version with outdoor housing and heating for outdoor use down to -40 °C.
The new series is compatible with common IO-Link masters and enables direct position processing via IO-Link. Additional sensor technology for acceleration and temperature measurements is integrated into the WCS read head. In addition to velocity and position data,
the sensor provides extra information such as acceleration values in three axes, a direction bit, and an identification number.
The read head can also be used to identify individual mobile components, for example. Up to 1280 sections of code tape can be reliably detected and output as an identification number. A dynamically configured preset value means that any code tape section can also be used for positioning.
